Warning: the following is me blowing off a little bit of steam......do not read if you are perfect!
Why do we try to be these perfect people. I 've always struggled with perfection myself. I think I need to have the perfect house, perfect kids, perfect job, etc. The reality is I am not perfect....but Jesus is. Often times I am humbled by the little things: the tantrum in meijer (no my children are not perfect), the dust collecting on my bed post (no perfect house), working the every sunday shift (no perfect job). Why do we need to always make ourselves look perfect.......I truly believe if people were honest this world would be a much easier place to live. Imaging living in a world of "perfect people" and having to admit you have an issue with stealing, or lying, or crying, or etc. No wonder people don't get help...people like us will not admit that we are not perfect making everyother problem in this world seem giagantic. Face it you nor I are perfect...thank-goodness, because if I was a picture of perfection it would be an ugly picture.
I often recite this song in my head as a reminder that God has given us all a picture of perfection, Him!
no such thing as perfect people
Perfect People by Natalie GrantNever let 'em see you when you're breaking
Never let 'em see you when you fall
That's how we live and that's how we try
Tell the world you've got it all together
Never let them see what's underneath
Cover it up with a crooked smile
But it only lasts for a little while
[CHORUS:]
There's no such thing as perfect people
There's no such thing as a perfect life
So come as you are, broken and scarred
Lift up your heart and be amazed
And be changed by a perfect God
Suddenly it's like a weight is lifted
When you hear the words that you are loved
He knows where you are and where you've been
And you never have to go there again
[CHORUS]
Who lived and died to give new life
To heal our imperfections
So look up and see love. Let grace be enough
[CHORUS]
By a perfect God [5x]
Be changed by a perfect God
Be changed
Seriously, we put faces and act so we look like we are perfect. even our parents expect us to be perfect and we fall into that lie and we live our lives trying not to disappoint them. and i am hecka tired of this.
when will parents realize there is no such thing as perfect people and stop pressuring us to be perfect?
when will we children realize there is no such thing as perfect people and stop believing this lie and break under this pressure and destroy ourselves by being emotionally healthy or things?
when will we all realize that there is a perfect God that we can look up to as a model ( a perfect model) instead of looking for what the world tells us to be?
when will we realize that only this perfect God can change us?

amen sister :) April
Thanks for posting this! I needed to hear that others struggle with this too! I added the song to my blog list! It is just a great reminder of how we need the Lord!
So true! We are nowhere near perfect. thank goodness that Jesus is!! Lately i have been really struggling with satons lies. lies that i am not perfect, or that i am not a good mother, or that i need more things. but bible study tuesday really opened my eyes again to this, that i NEED to be "taking these thoughts captive". Just knowing the charactor of Christ, these thoughts are NOT from him. and so therefore untrue!!! We are made in Christ's Image! and he is perfect!!! Thanks for the reminder, love ya girl!
